Sermon: Defragment 1- True Rest

Date: February 11, 2024

Text: Matthew 11:25-30

Matthew 11:25–30 (ESV) “25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Let’s Connect:

Life’s hard journey is an old motif in Christianity, but in the present, we want coherence in our journey.

There are hard Questions we might ask about our spiritual journey:

I read the Bible but I don’t get anything out of it—why?

Why doesn’t prayer seem to work?

Does God’s presence in me make any real difference?

Why do I feel spiritually dry?

How can I possibly add anything:

The desire for something more is evidence of the work of the Trinity within us

The emptiness we may feel about God is actually one way He invites us to come to him.

Text Explained:

Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV)  28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

REST: wholeness; complete

“Come to Me:

“all who labor and are heavy laden:

“I will give you rest:

“Take my yoke upon you”

Let’s Relate:

All the fragments of life being brought together with you on this journey.

Listen to your everyday life, because all of it is an invitation to come to Him

Our Challenge:

Don’t leave anything behind!

Don’t leave anyone behind!
