Feed my Sheep

By Andrew Cascio

“Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” John‬ ‭21‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There’s so much in the text of John 21:17, I’m just going to focus on the last part today. Jesus tells Peter to feed his sheep. Now this isn’t a request like we would ask a neighbor to feed our pets while we go out of town. Jesus is a Shepard, who is his flock? We are! Feeding the flock consists of nurturing, guiding, caring for, teaching, looking out for, and loving God’s people. He tells Peter if he loves him, to feed his sheep. Jesus knew Peter’s heart, and he knows yours too, he knew when Peter said he loved him that he did. Peter wouldn’t be a proper fit to feed his sheep if he didn’t truly love him above all else. How much do you love Jesus? Do you love him enough to feed his sheep? Well, you may say stuff like I’m not a preacher, I can’t do that, I don’t know how. The fact of the matter is we are all equipped with gifts, talents, and ways to show Christ’s love. We all have ways to feed his sheep. Pray, ask God to show you how you can feed his sheep. Today I’m looking at this question as “Andrew, do you love me?” Feel free to fill your name in there and ask yourself the question. “Do you love God?” Then show him you truly do, and figure out the best way that you can feed his sheep. Remember not everyone goes to church, not everyone has the ability to reach people here or there. You have a network of people you work with, friends, and people around you that you can have conversations with and have influence over that I could never reach, that my Pastor could never reach. Take opportunities to feed these people in a way that only you are able. I don’t know about you, but, if it was good enough for Peter, I’d be honored to be in his company!
